“The Holdovers” is the newest narrative feature from director Alexander Payne. It follows a school instructor, played by Paul Giamatti, forced to look over a group of students during Christmas break. As the film progresses, he forms an unlikely friendship with one of the students, played by Dominic Sessa, and a cafeteria worker, played by Da’Vine Joy Randolph. It had its world premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival.

From Oct. 5 to Oct. 15, the 32nd Heartland International Film Festival took place in the Indianapolis area. At six theaters, the festival hosted 238 in-person screenings and events of movies that will not be released to the public until later this year. There were also over 6,000 virtual streams of films from the festival.

After 19 years, one would think studios and audiences have grown tired of the “Saw” franchise. Although the last few movies have been a financial success, their critical response has divided audiences. With “Saw X,” the filmmakers have finally figured out where to take this franchise and how to keep it fresh. *Spoilers ahead*

This coming Oscar season looks like it will be another monumental time at the Academy Awards. With films by Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Greta Gerwig and David Fincher being released, I thought it would be fun to look at what has the potential to be nominated for the 23 awards in the academy’s catalog. Here are my personal predictions for what will be nominated for the 2024 Academy Awards.

The 2023 Academy Awards was one of the most monumental Oscar ceremonies in years. Daniels’ “Everything Everywhere All at Once” won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Michelle Yeoh became the first woman of Asian descent to win the Best Actress award, which was one of many achievements of the night.

The “Saw” series is one of the most notorious horror franchises of the 21st century. Although every movie in the franchise holds a poor rating on Rotten Tomatoes, they have garnered a massive fanbase due to the film’s famous gimmick: the traps. Each movie has its own unique set of traps and storylines, but some stand out more than the rest. With the tenth film in the franchise, “Saw X,” being released on Sept. 29, here is my personal ranking of the nine “Saw” films from worst to best.

“Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” releases in theaters on Mar. 31; last week, I had the opportunity to attend an early screening through AMC’s Early Access event. As someone who has never played the Dungeons and Dragons game, I went into the film blindly. Despite knowing little about the source material, I found a lot to appreciate from the film and I think others, regardless of experience with the Dungeons and Dragons game, will enjoy it too.

A first-year student at IUPUI signed up for CAPS because he was struggling with mental health problems. When he signed up, he was told he could not see a counselor for another week because of the high demand for mental health services.

The 95th Academy Awards will acknowledge the nominated films released in 2022 on Sunday, Mar. 12. A24’s “Everything Everywhere All At Once” leads the nominees with 11 nominations, including Best Picture. Although it is nominated for the most awards, will it prevail over the rest of the films? As a film major, here are my picks and predictions for what I want to win and what is likely to win each category in the upcoming awards show. I will also discuss which films have a chance to beat, or upset the predicted winner.

The “Shrek” franchise has been going strong for over 20 years. According to The Numbers, it has grossed over $2 billion worldwide and garnered lots of critical praise. The last film to release from the “Shrek” franchise was “Puss in Boots,” released in 2011. It took 11 years to get a sequel, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” (2022), released. Does the sequel hold up after the long wait? The answer is simple: definitely.

The Campus Citizen has decided to put together a selection of romance films that one should and should not watch on the upcoming holiday. On a general consensus among audiences, these films are considered universally praised as romances that are worth watching, while the other films on this list could be considered universally distressing to watch with your significant other.

Brendan Fraser was one of the most popular celebrities of 2022. Not only was he making a comeback performance in the film ‘The Whale’, but videos went viral of Fraser getting standing ovations after the film’s premiere. Though Fraser gives a tour-de-force performance, ‘The Whale’ has more to offer than just that.
