The IUPUI Jaguars showcased their unselfishness in today’s win over Detroit Mercy by a score of 80-65.

Detroit Mercy, as they have done all season, put together a 2-3 defense. The big men of IUPUI had great body movement and action, from the free throw line to the blocks. The movements were crucial in how they could get the win.

This efficient movement lead to assists, and a lot of them. IUPUI had 26 assists today and guys like Evan Hall and Jack Hansen showed patience, which led to some great shots for the Jags.

“The way we looked for another was big time for us,” Gardner said, “I think we have some really good passers and a lot of our guys like receiving the ball in the middle.”

IUPUI as a team was 41 percent from the floor in the first half. However in the second half they made it even better as they finished with 62 percent from the field in the second half. The three point percentage also increased from 35 percent in the first half to 47 percent in the second half.

“This is how we are going to have to beat teams,” Hansen said, “When we go inside-out then we can start making threes and get in the lane for layups leads to a good team win.”

Evan Hall added to that, saying, “Anytime we are sharing the sugar like that then it is going to be hard to beat us.”

Hall put in a great game with ten points and ten rebounds to give him a double-double. He even avoided the foul trouble that has plagued him this season.

“In the beginning of the conference season I was worried about fouling so much, Hall said, “Now I am just trying to stay hungry as I can cause I only have a few games left.”

For Jack Hansen to get a career high of 15 points when he averages only 3.3 points a game certainly helps the Jags move forward in their quest for the Horizon League title.

“This was a huge week for our team,” Hansen said, “ To get two wins in a row at home is big for us as we have Northern Kentucky and Wright State up next.”

Coach Gardner emphasized that the focus still needs to be on Wednesday for their next game against Northern Kentucky.

“We want to keep raising our bar and want to concentrate game by game,” Gardner said, “Our team has a big week next week and we don’t want to worry about Wright State till Saturday and the guys are excited and ready for it.”
