IUPUI Women’s Tennis Hosting Fraternities and Sororities Life Challenge

There is a new opportunity for Greek life students to promote their chapters. With the new Fraternities and Sororities Life Challenge, also known as FSL, students of all Greek organizations will compete with one another by attending tennis matches and supporting their fellow student-athletes.

Led by IUPUI women's head tennis coach Pawel Gajdzik, the initiative will act as a catalyst to boost athletic recognition among Greek organizations through attendance and social media engagement. Their home matches are played at the West Indy Racquet Club and are free to attend.

“I believe that Vision 2024 and 2030 provides IUPUI with the opportunity to align both the academic and athletic visions of excellence and create a unified brand that reflects the pride and spirit of our university and the community that supports it,” Gajdzik said, “Jaguar Athletics could be a catalyst for national brand recognition and a key focal point that unites our alumni base across the nation.”

A united alumni base is critical to athletics in 2023. Alumni bases can help influence fundraising, program renovations, and even recruiting. Tying an alumni base together starts with the student body. That’s why Gajdzik has started this program, the students drive change within IUPUI athletics and Gajdzik knows it.

“The student body plays a pivotal role in the success of the athletics department,” Gajdzik said, “The student body can create an unforgettable and exciting atmosphere at athletic events which can create a home court advantage and influence the outcome of games. We need to change the perception of our athletic teams in the eyes of IUPUI students, by being more visible on our campus and creating an atmosphere where it is “cool” to go to athletic events.”

The Lady Jags are currently 2-6 with their two wins coming in their last three matches. With home upcoming matches, Gajdzik suggests that this opportunity for Greek organizations will also help promote their communities.

“I also see this as a great opportunity for Greek Organizations to complete community service, fundraisers, brotherhood/sisterhood events or promote their chapters,” Gajdzik said, “In this challenge, chapters earn points through attendance at home matches and social media engagement.”

Points will be scored as follows: 5 points per person in attendance at IUPUI women’s tennis home games that use the hashtag “JagsFSLChallenge” on social media posts and 1 point per person that follows the team on social media. The organization with the most points at the end of the season wins the competition.

“A secondary objective is to use this pilot initiative to gather information for future projects that would focus on providing students with an excellent fan experience at tennis matches and other IUPUI athletics events and help us grow the spirit and pride of our university on our campus,” Gajdzik said.

Gajdzik is at the forefront of bringing the IUPUI community together through athletics and the student body, starting with tennis, but not stopping there.

“I am excited about the possibilities of this project,” Gajdzik said, “My hope is that in the future this initiative can expand to include all student organizations and all sports on our campus.”
