Midwest Moto Society and Black Circle Brewing Co. will be hosting International Female Ride Day 2019 on Saturday, May 4. This event will include local artists and entrepreneurs, food from Elena Ruz Cuban Cuisine, a special appearance from BCBC’s resident drag performers, a raffle, and of course, exciting ride routes.
The Indiana Youth Group will be celebrating with International Female Ride Day and are the recipients of this year’s proceeds. Midwest Moto Society and Black Circle Brewing Co. invite you to come out and support local businesses, give back to the community, and celebrate women who ride.
Founder, Vicki Gray, introduced International Female Ride Day in 2007 as “JUST RIDE!” Gray is affiliated with Motoress, the #1 global online women’s motorcycling magazine, and is described as someone who is fully submerged in motorcycling. She has participated in all aspects of motorcycling and has even taught police in the Caribbean (Netherlands Antilles), how to ride.
International Female Ride Day is the only global women’s motorcycle event and takes place the first Saturday of May every year. IFRD has been a success due to women around the world and is seen as an important mechanism for the motorcycle industry.
This event has been in Indy for the past five years. The tagline for IFRD is “Just Ride,” but Indianapolis takes this day a step further by using it as an opportunity to give back as well.
“We choose host a day to celebrate women who ride while also using it as an opportunity to support local businesses and artists and giving back to the community as well. Black Circle Brewing Company, which is notorious for being involved in the community, is the location for the ride this year,” says host representative Julia Lagenour.
Local artists will be allowed to vend their creations, and proceeds will go to Indiana Youth Group, a nonprofit organization for the LGBT youth. Black Circle Brewing Co.’s resident drag performers will also be putting on a show during the event and giving their tips to IYG.
“This event is so important because it shows how so many independent and underrepresented communities can come together and celebrate and support each other,” says Lagenour.
