Tom Brady Retires After 20 Seasons

On February 1, 2022, Tom Brady, quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to retire and step away from football.

On Instagram, he wrote, “ This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.” 

It was reported that many of Brady’s former teammates said he would retire after the season. 

Brady played his last game in the NFL in the Divisional Round against the Los Angeles Rams. The two teams met in Week 3 where the Rams beat the Buccaneers 34-24. 

The Buccaneers were down 27-3 in the third quarter. Brady was able to lead his team down 24 points. The game was all tied up 27-27. However, Cooper Kupp was one-on-one against Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and caught a deep pass from quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Kupp caught the 44-yard pass to help kicker Matt Gay end the game on a walk-off 30-yard field goal. This was the last time the NFL saw Tom Brady.

Before coming to the Buccaneers, Brady played with the New England Patriots for 20 years. He was drafted by the Patriots in 2000. He was a sixth-round pick, pick 199.

In those 20 years, Brady with the Patriots won six super bowls and won three MVPs. Brady’s best performance with the Patriots was during Superbowl 51.

The Patriots and Brady were down by 25 points to the Atlanta Falcons. Brady got the Patriots to overtime with the game tied 28-28. Brady led an eight-play drive that ended with Brady tossing to running back James White. White ran it in to win the game. This was the biggest comeback in Superbowl history.

Brady before retiring was able to play, and beat his former team. He also broke the most passing yards in league history. 

Brady is leaving the NFL with many career records.

He is a seven-time Superbowl champion. He has five Superbowl MVPs. He has three regular-season MVPs. 

He has the most career touchdown passes with 624. He has the most career passing yards with 84,520. He has the most Pro Bowl selections with 15.

Brady will go down as the greatest player in NFL history. He is also considered to be a top-five athlete of all time.
