The Indianapolis Colts (0-1) lost 41-23 to the Baltimore Ravens (1-0) in their home opener Sunday. The Colts led early, but the Ravens showed their strength on both offense and defense and capitalized on key Colts turnovers.
Baltimore’s offense dominated. The Ravens answered the Colts’ early 6-0 lead with four touchdowns and a field goal in the first half. Running back Derrick Henry finished with three touchdowns. Quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for 324 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score. Wide receiver Zay Flowers had 150 receiving yards and a touchdown before leaving at halftime with a hamstring injury.
Baltimore's defense also shined, especially in the second half, when Colts quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked twice. The Ravens held Indianapolis to 3-of-10 on third down and intercepted Jones in the first quarter. The Colts committed two turnovers. The second, a fumble by running back Jonathan Taylor, led to a Ravens touchdown.
The Colts still found some positives in the loss. Taylor, a key part of the offense, rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Taylor led the league in touchdowns last season and has started this season strong. The Colts' defense sacked Jackson and forced and recovered a fumble. It also held Baltimore to 10 points in the second half.
The loss continues a string of poor Week 1 performances for Indianapolis. The Colts' only Week 1 win in the last decade came last season, a 33-8 victory over Miami.
Indianapolis plays next at 8:20 p.m. Sept. 20 against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
