Jaguars take road game against Horizon League rival Mastodons

IUPUI Men’s Basketball defeated Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 85-79 for their second conference win of the season. They are now 6-14 overall and 2-7 in Horizon League.

The Jaguars shot 59.3% from the field, 60% from behind the arc and 70.6% from the free-throw line. Leading the Jags was junior Jlynn Counter with 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Multiple other players recorded double figure points. Sophomore Abdou Samb scored 13, sophomore Vincent Brady II had 12 and senior Bryce Monroe had 10. Sophomore DJ Jackson also recorded double digit points while making an impact off the bench with 17 points, shooting 7 of 9 from the floor, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Graduate student Qwanzi Samuels also had an important impact off the bench with nine points and 10 rebounds. 

Purdue Fort Wayne shot only 46.7% from the field, 28% from three and 61.5% from the line. Sophomore Jalen Jackson led Purdue Fort Wayne with 22 points and six rebounds. Junior Rasheed Bello recorded 19 points and four assists and senior Anthony Roberts had 13 points, three rebounds and three blocks. The Mastodons bench did not contribute much to the game with only two players scoring. 

The Jaguars will face Robert Morris University for their next conference game at home on Saturday Jan. 20. The Jags look to bounce back after a loss to this team 92-48 at the beginning of this month.
