IU Indianapolis women's soccer (2-6-2, 0-2-0) lost to Wright State (4-5-1, 2-0-0) Thursday in its second match of Horizon League play. The game ended in a 3-1 loss for the Jaguars at home.
The Raiders dominated the first half of the game with their offense. Junior midfielder Olivia Stroud quickly gave Wright State a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the match. In this half, the Raiders had six shots on goal compared to the Jaguars' one shot on goal. Sophomore midfielder Taliah Pellizzari and senior midfielder Makenzie Chinn also scored for the Raiders in the 26th and 42nd minutes. Wright State ended the half with a crushing 3-0 lead.
"Anytime another team scores early on you, it kind of deflates you a little bit," said IU Indy head coach Angela Berry White.
"But we were trying to bounce back and create our own opportunities. It's one of those things where we anticipated that happening, and it did. And so, you just hope that the players learn from it. We talked about that, and we didn't give those chances really ... You know, especially in the second half after we were able to meet in halftime, so ... Yeah, it kind of put us back on our heels, but something that we'll learn from. That's most important."
The Jaguars entered the second half with a different energy. They were able to create various scoring opportunities and managed to get on the board in this half. Sophomore midfielder Maci Sammons scored in the 77th minute and was assisted by both freshman midfielder Madeline Chappa and junior forward Keilah Muldrow. The Jaguars attempted nineshots and two shots on goal in the second half. IU Indy also had four corner kicks in this half, a major difference from the one corner kick it had in the first half.
"It was just a desire to get some ball first," White said. "We talked about the things that we wanted to do from the very start of the game, and it did click finally in the second half. You want it to be a complete 90, but sometimes it isn't, and you saw that tonight. Where, in the second half when we came out, we did change things up just slightly, but not to the extent that it was anything far different from what we were trying to do at the beginning of the game. We isolated Keilah a few times, and she was open, and just wasn't able to convert on some of those shots, but we'll just keep trying."
Wright State senior midfielder Caitlin Burger also received a yellow card in the 57th minute.
IU Indy will face Northern Kentucky (5-3-1, 1-1-0) next at 1 p.m. Sunday at Carroll Stadium in the last match of its three-game homestand.

Indiana Fever get huge win over top-seeded Minnesota Lynx

Both teams had plenty at stake: a win for the Lynx would automatically clinch them the league's No. 1 overall playoff seed, while winning this game and the next one would improve the Fever’s odds of home-court advantage in the first round of playoffs. With Lynx’s rookie star Olivia Miles out with a calf injury, the Fever won 96-77.
