Know Your Status: IUPUI's HIV/STI Testing

Heads up! This article was imported from a previous version of The Campus Citizen. If you notice any issues, please let us know.

According to aids.gov, over 1.1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV. Amongst these 1 million, an estimated 51% (31,300) people aged 13-24 living with HIV didn’t know. Amid this group of 13-24 who were diagnosed with HIV in 2013, 78% were linked to care within 3 months—the lowest rate of any age group (CDC). It is important for everyone to know the status of their health and IUPUI is giving numerous opportunities to do it for free.

The Office of Health and Wellness Promotion, MCPHD, the Bell Flower Clinic, Damien Center and the IU National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health are all in collaboration to bring you Know Your Status free HIV/STI testing. The free testing event will take place in the Campus Center Atrium on Thursday, April 11 and Thursday, May 2 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

When we can’t see things, we tend to ignore them. When left untreated, some STIs can lead to more serious infections and can sometimes be fatal. IUPUI gives you the opportunity to reduce your risk. Know Your Status free HIV/STI testing is a monthly event held on the first Thursday of September-December and February-May. This free testing provides wellness screenings and pregnancy tests. Testing can take between 10-15 minutes, it is confidential and done by The Damien Center, The Bell Flower Clinic, and the IU National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health.
