Since 2004, Herron School of Art and Design has put on the Wearable Art Show. This event gives interested students a chance to test their creativity and transform their art from a stationary work to a piece of clothing.
Hosted in the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Fine Art Center (EFAC), students work to set up the event in the back warehouse. The event space features light and sound elements, plenty of seating for guests and a runway for students to show off their designs. Some students enlist classmates to model their art.
The main building hosts a gallery in which students are able to display their art pieces. Past works have included ceramics, paintings and textile arts.
The past two shows came after cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The October 2021 show was the first one after students returned to campus.
This year’s 20th anniversary show will take place on March 28 at the EFAC building, which is located at 1374 Indiana Ave. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m., giving guests a chance to browse the art gallery beforehand.
For the first time, it will also feature the work of three alumni, including recent graduate Morgan Robinson-Gay.
“The wearable art show was a very important part of being a Herron Sculpture student for me and many alumni. I thought, ‘What better way to celebrate 20 years than to bring back other alumni and participate myself,’” Robinson-Gay said.
This is also the first year Music and Technology students will be a part of the show. Recently, Music and Technology moved from the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering to Herron. Music and technology students will coordinate light and sound during the show, with three students from the program also providing live music performances during the show.
