Liberal Arts Career Week (LACW), happening Feb. 23-27, offers students an opportunity to network, receive guidance and get questions answered, such as, “What can I do with this major?”
Students can connect with peers, faculty and alumni to prepare for their future careers.
“It’s a week where we create programming dedicated to careers and helping students with their future plans after they graduate,” said Sam Walters, director of advising and student success in Liberal Arts. “The reason we started Career Week is to help students bridge the gap between what they study in the classroom and learn how they can translate those skills to the working world.”
Attending events during Liberal Arts Career Week can help students identify possible career paths, translate skills into employer language, access resources and build confidence.
Student Phillip Wozniewski, a senior majoring in philosophy, encourages students to attend the events because they have opportunities to learn a variety of new skills in a relaxed environment.
Wozniewski sees LACW as a peek into the services provided by the Liberal Arts Career Office and a way to build one’s network. He encouraged students not to hesitate to ask questions.
Anneka Scott, a Liberal Arts career consultant, also encourages students to attend.
“No matter what year you are or where you are in your academic or even career journey, it is literally never too early to start preparing for your career,” Scott said.
When planning the week, Scott said she wanted to ensure there was a low barrier to engagement for each event, increasing accessibility. Events were designed so students can stop by briefly rather than attend an entire session, and virtual options are available.
Scott, Walters and Wozniewski agree students will benefit from attending events, even if they do not think a session applies to them. They encourage students to take advantage of career resources available on campus.
