LETTER: IU Must End its Ban on Pepper Spray

Recently, an article was published in The Campus Citizen about the work student organizations and the IUPD are doing to improve campus safety. However, like the many students whom I have spoken with, you may be surprised to know that Indiana University has a policy banning pepper spray and similar weapons. The biggest problem with an existing policy that is not enforced is that the University has the freedom to enforce the policy unfairly and discriminatorily. More importantly, the existing policy being in the books allows the university to change their mind at any time and start punishing students for wanting to protect themselves.

OPINION: A Plan to Save Social Security for Our Generation

Social Security is going broke. By the time the Baby Boomers all retire, let alone when we get our chance to migrate to Florida and sip margaritas on the beach, there might be no money left, or the age of full benefits will be 150.  The continued existence of the system depends on young people not having the financial sense to realize that it is a scam. So how can we fix it, without screwing people over who have already paid into the system?

My name is Zachary Barnett, and I love coffee, specifically espresso beverages. I have my usual coffee shop: whichever Starbucks is near me. However, I want to spice up my coffee-tasting life by visiting every local coffee shop in Indianapolis. I want to gauge how each coffee shop makes the same beverage ...

OPINION: Moonies Approached Me on Campus

A few weeks ago I was doing homework in the library. I am a commuter, so for me this was a little out of the ordinary. I had been sitting there for about an hour, and I was making good progress until I was approached by two members of the The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.

OPINION: Indiana HB 1134: Proposal for Compromise

After heavy pushback, Indiana Senate has voted down the watered-down revision of Indiana House Bill 1134. This bill, more commonly referred to as the “Anti-CRT” or “Anti-Teacher” bill, has been subject to public scrutiny. The original bill reworked the Indiana public education system to accommodate ...

Halloween Movie Review: Shaun of the Dead

With Halloween right around the corner, many of us may watch some of our favorite horror movies, and while it’s certainly far from scary, “Shaun of the Dead” makes a great movie to watch with friends this time of year. As a quick summary of the movie, it primarily follows the journey of Shaun ...

“Dare to Say His Name”: Candyman is no longer a myth

“Candyman”  is psychologically jarring in how it exemplifies racial injustice. The sequel follows the 1992 film, where the main character in the 2021 film, is derived from the child who had a connection to the Candyman. The urban legend is retold within the new film, but speaks to the truths of ...

Shang-Chi: How Action Drives Narrative

The film features multiple action scenes one expects from a martial arts movie, barring the painfully generic battle scene, and most of the fight scenes in the ...

OPINION: Clean Beauty-The New Normal or a Passing Fad?

The other day, I went into my local Walgreens for a new mascara. Browsing the beauty section, it’s hard not to notice the new trends. There were, of course, lines of bright colors for spring, new lines of concealer, the normal products that are reintroduced every few months, branded as something ‘new ...
